Aluvia Photonics Strengthens 200mm AlOx Production with New Equipment
ENSCHEDE, The Netherlands – March 12, 2025 – Aluvia Photonics, a leading innovator in photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and the first company to commercialize AlOx-based photonics platform, announced today the commissioning of new manufacturing equipment to scale production to 200mm wafers, with planned installation later this year. This expansion represents a key milestone in ramping up Aluvia’s proprietary AlOx technology for applications in near-term markets.
The new equipment enables processing of sputtered AlOx on 200mm wafers, ensuring compatibility with industry-standard contamination control and quality requirements designed to integrate seamlessly with pre- and post- processing at partner facilities.
“We’ve been successfully sampling devices from our R&D facility to partners across various PIC markets, with some companies showing clear growth roadmaps. Investing in 200mm manufacturing capabilities is a critical step in meeting the requirements of those pilot customers,” said Steve Stoffels, CEO of Aluvia Photonics. “We see a strong market demand for our AlOx technology, and this expansion positions us to deliver our innovations at a larger scale.”
The first 200mm AlOx wafers will be available in early 2026, with MPWs and customer projects runs to follow. Aluvia welcomes discussions with companies interested in leveraging this technology for their photonics applications.
This development strengthens Aluvia’s position as a key player in the photonics ecosystem, supporting the growing demand for scalable, high-performance materials in next-generation PIC applications.
The investment in a 200mm tool for AlOx deposition has been made possible with the support of the High Tech Fund through UTH (Universiteit Twente Holding). Their commitment to fostering deep-tech innovation plays a crucial role in advancing cutting-edge research and development. We are grateful for their support in strengthening our technological foundation and accelerating our growth.
